Bioinformatics week in Odaiba 2011iBiWO2011j

REGISTRATION ON THE DAY is available

Odaiba, Tokyo is a popular place with beautiful views of the Tokyo bay waterfront area. In Odaiba, there is the Computational Biology Research Center (CBRC), Japanese national institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), which is Japanfs leading research center for bioinformatics. BiWO is a closely-packed series of meetings focused on bioinformatics including CBRCfs annual workshop as the central part. BiWOfs reputation as a good meeting on bioinformatics has been well established. As the year 2011 is the 10th anniversary of CBRC and the 5th BiWO, the BiWO2011 program committee now plans many invited lectures and so on, which should be more attractive than past BiWOs.

Computational Biology Research Center Workshop 2011

The Computational Biology Research Center(CBRC), a part of National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology(AIST), performs various research activities in the computational biology and bioinformatics field. The CBRC workshop has been held annually as a place to send the results. As CBRC celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2011, we are pleased to annouce to hold a ceremony with topmost speakers on January 24th, 2011.CBRC2011 will feature oral presentations and poster session, in addition to some invited talks by outstanding both domestic and foreign scientists. These will provide participants with both an overview of CBRC's research activity and the opportunity to directly discuss individual topics with the presenters.

JST, Japan-Sweden Research Cooperation; Protein subcellular localization and related topics

This workshop is planned as part of a JST sponsored program for collaboration research between Japan and Sweden. Presentations on a broad range of protein related topics are planned. For example, the recognition of proteins transported into the mitochondria, assembly and topology prediction of membrane proteins, mitosomal proteins in entamoeba, and the transport of proteins in and out of the nucleus.

HPCI workshop "Frontier of the Next-Generation Sequencer Research"

The spread of next-generation sequencers which can read a lot of sequence data have brought a flood of bio-related information. What can we acquire from those information, and how can we develop our research works? In this workshop, we will invite some researchers on the cutting-edge of this field and we would like to explore the future of this field. This workshop is supported by "Human resources fostering program, HPCI (High Performance Computing Infrastructure) Strategic Promotion Program: Area 1 Prediction of Life science, Medicine and Drug design platform".

JSBi-SIG on Pharma-Informatics

In JSBi-SIG on Pharma-Informatics group, we discuss bioinformatics for real drug discovery by the researchers of academa, IT industry, and pharmaceutical company. This meeting will feature the issues, for the informatics for target discovery and validation, quality contorl of high througput screening, selection and design of small compound, and analysis of pre-clinical and clinical data.

CBRC2011:Introduction of Symbolic Computation: Toward its Application to Biological Sciences

The field of symbolic computation is well established in mathematics. Recently, its application to various scientific fields is steadily expanded, especially to some fields of engineering. Unfortunately, its applications are still rare in the field of biological sciences. In this session, we introduce primary aspects of symbolic computation with some applications, as a first step to promote its availability in biological sciences. Also, some applications are presented as the examples for the application.
